rules

I had rules, deeply researched rules,

but somehow you turned my stones to jewels,

in the palm of your hand.

The way we roamed the land,

thinking and knowing no one could ever be so damn happy,

breaking my rules against being sappy,

for my lover.

I know one day we'll discover,

how it feels in the icy snow

but right now I don't know.

I'd die for you a thousand times over,

knowing I have found my four leaf clover,

in your smile.

And if you ever find yourself in the exile,

of my heart,

just know it hurts me when we're apart.

I'm so happy that I broke all my rules,

down for you.

Like the night in December when we held close,

and knew we'd never let the other go,

as least not as long as it's this cold.

You turn my rusted brass to gold,

and I'll be content if this is it,

you know I'll always be a hypocrite.

When I said I'd never fall,

but then for you, I risk it all.

I know you'll either be wife,

or the greatest pain of my life.

And honestly I'm fine with that,

even with the backlash of a burocrat

who doesn't think we should be able to love,

but how can that be when your hand fits with mine like a glove.

If I had to redo everything,

I'd still end up wearing your ring.
